Spock was my favorite. He will always be my favorite. My first alien crush. I had a busy day today and didn't find out until I got home that Leonard Nimoy had died. I followed Mr. Nimoy on Twitter, so I knew that he was in the hospital a few days ago. I'm sorry I didn't run into my co-worker who is a Star Trek fan. We're of the same generation and grew up watching the original series. We sometimes say "so long" for the day by saying Live Long and Prosper to each other. Wonder what my co-worker is thinking today, if he's revisiting childhood memories like I am tonight. I thank Leonard Nimoy for bringing such a great character to life. Spock will Live Long and Prosper forever.
I never knew a great deal about Mr. Nimoy's private life, but from the little I know, and from following him on Twitter in recent years, he was a good man. Despite failing health in recent years, he remained active and engaged until the end. I am one of thousands around the world who feel sad at his passing today. Maybe I'll end this post on a happy memory:
Here is another of my occasional Voices posts. Today I'm featuring two actors I first got to know in the Lord of the Rings films and have since seen in other roles: Bernard Hill and John Noble. I sometimes wander if I had seen them on screen before getting to know them as Denethor and Theoden. Great character actors sometimes pass through our lives and we don't stop to find out a bit more about them.
John Noble
I first saw John Noble as Denethor, father of Boromir and Faramir, in The Lord of the Rings films. Now I watch John Noble every Monday when Sleepy Hollow is on. He plays the evil Henry Parrish, son of darling Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and annoying witch Katrina (Katia Winter). John Noble is an Australian actor and theater director. He’s directed more than 80 plays in his career, including plays in London’s West End. He was Head of Drama at the Brent St. School of Arts in Sydney, Australia from 1997-2000. Daughter Samantha Noble is also an actor/actress.
Below are two examples of John Noble’s work. A Noble family produced/directed film starring John Noble:
My favorite scene from LOTR Extended Edition - Osgiliath
Bernard Hill
I first remember seeing Bernard Hill as Theoden, King of Rohan, in the LOTR films. Bernard Hill was born in Manchester and is a film, stage, and television actor. Hill graduated with a diploma in theater from Manchester Polytechnic School of Drama. He became well known in the UK for playing Yosser Hughes in the 1980’s TV dramas The Blackstuff and Boys from the Blackstuff. The British Film Institute described it as a "seminal drama series... a warm, humorous but ultimately tragic look at the way economics affect ordinary people...”
Since then Hill has worked in several popular films, including Titanic and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
Below is Bernard Hill reading a poem by Shelley:
A bit of fun behind the scenes during LOTR filming with Bernard Hill and a glimpse of John Noble:

(Disclaimer: Shelley's poem are not necessarily my views or indeed even Mr Hill's)
Robin Ellis talks about his work as a successful cookbook author and talks about meeting the new Poldark, Aidan Turner, and filming in Cornwall for Poldark then for his series and now for the new series.
If you are in the Washington DC area you can watch Robin Ellis as Ross Poldark on WETA UK on Saturdays at 10:00pm. See link below for other times:
Valentine's Day is my least favorite of least favorite holidays. It has always seemed to me like the punishment of the coupled for all of us "noncoupled." February 14, the day the lonely get reminded every second of the day about their loneliness.
"The app generates everything that would exist in a real-life relationship, like photos, text messages, and even voicemails. "
Your family, friends and co-workers will think you are no longer "noncoupled". I, however, don't need the Invisible Virtual Boyfriend App because you see I already have someone who could in some ways qualify for the title, and more. He's handsome, beautiful in fact, intelligent, sweet, sensitive, funny, talented, thoughtful, adorable, moody, and an anti-socialite. A woman couldn't ask for more. He's in my heart every day, and I love him. This Valentine's Day he gave the world the gift of his magnificent voice reading some of the most beautiful love poems in the English language. This year Valentine's Day is magical thanks to him:
I dedicate this song to Richard with all my love on Valentine's Day:
Then there are those loves that last the test of time. There's a special love for someone who has gone through so many ups and downs of life with you, from youth to middle-age. Sean has been with me in my fantasies for longer than I care to confess, and this Valentine's Day his gift has been some wonderful interviews thanks to new movie Jupiter Ascending. It is so good to see him happy and happily working. This Valentine's Day I dedicate a vintage video of mine to Sean, who I treasure every day:
Invisible Virtual Boyfriend could never compete with Richard Armitage and Sean Bean for my heart.
Jan 12: More on Richard and Armitage and hunt rates: "The most successful cheetahs with a 66% success rate were ... and the studly brothers Richard and Armitage.
To my utter lack of surprise it turned out Bradley and Cooper were worthless on the hunting front. Despite watching them for DAYS, they only hunted 3 times, and failed on all fronts. Those boys were more interested in spooning and armpit grooming than hunting." From Anne Hilborn's blog ______________ No surprise Richard and Armitage are majestic cheetahs
