Audiobook Challenge 2020 - June Audiobook

The June Audiobook selection is supposed to be an audiobook shortlisted for a prize.

However I have two audiobooks I've been waiting for that are coming out in May/June.

It's too early to know if either or both will be shortlisted for a prize. But I have hopes the audiobooks or the narrator may be shortlisted for a prize soon.

Note:  I have finished listening to The Jane Austen Society and would highly recommend the audiobook for all who love Jane Austen and are familiar with her books or the TV shows and movies based on her books. I hope there is a film, or better yet, a TV series, based on Natalie Jenner's book.  

And also highly recommend for all who love Richard Armitage.

Audiobook Challenge - Two Books this Month and A Suggestion for Audible

I looks like by the beginning of next week I will have finished two audiobooks by mid-February. 

I'm just finishing the first book in David Hewson's Nic Costa series,  A Season for The Dead,and I'm really enjoying it.  I'll certainly continue the series, after a detour to  read one more of the Bernie Gunther series (I have two of the series left I think), and maybe a detour for The Tattooist of Auschwitz, narrated by Richard Armitage.

The second book I listened to this month, February, is Wanderlust.  Yes, I did use my one Audible credit this month for Wanderlust narrated by Richard Armitage.

What was my favorite moment in Wanderlust? My favorite moment was (is) the video below:

If only Wanderlust was the book that Richard describes.  He's a born diplomat.

I'm glad I listened to Wanderlust after all. I always enjoy listening to his voice. But I don't plan to listen to it again. Didn't change my mind about this genre. 

Still wander why Audible suggested this, and why he said he would record it. If Audible wants him to narrate more in the "romance" or even erotic romance genre, please find him something better, worthy of his gift of narration.  

I'm glad some RA fans enjoyed it.  Also hope it brings him new fans that will discover his work.  Hope it also inspires casting directors to think of him in a new way so they cast him for interesting and versatile roles we can all enjoy. 

I would prefer if he went back to Georgette Heyer, Dickens, Shakespeare, Stevenson, Hewson, Hartley, etc. and maybe find some great, new, undiscovered, contemporary writers. They are out there Audible, I'm sure of it. 

I've been thinking of what I could suggest to Audible in the more "risque" category, if that's what they want for RA, and I may make this suggestion:

More specifically John Thomas and Lady Jane by D.H. Lawrence, unabridged and uncensored.  Richard Armitage can narrate the Parkin (Mellors) role, if they can find a good female narrator with an interesting voice.

David Bowie's Reading List from The Telegraph and My Reading List

I'm sorry to say I've only read 8 of the books on the list of Bowie's top 100 favorite books. But I'm going to copy the list and keep it with me to see what I can add to my reading (or listening list, I listen to audiobooks on my commute to/from work). 

I hope that if you're reading this post, you'll take a look at the article and look at Bowie's reading list, and add some of them to your reading list.

Of course, I will never live long enough to read all the books that I would like to read or hope to read. I used to read during my lunch hour at work, in the days I had a lunch hour. That's gone out of fashion in the workplace today, having a "lunch hour" so I don't do that anymore.  

My two favorite actors are both readers, book lovers, and over the years I've looked to them and what they're reading, or what they are working on at the moment if based on a book or books, to add to my reading list.  

Richard Armitage wins the prize, since he is not only an avid reader, but a wonderful, amazing, unique, talented narrator (performer). He's also very enthusiastic about sharing with his fans and the public what he's reading, what are his favorites, what he's reading to research a role and also on selecting projects that are related to works of literature, or recently to books about contemporary issues. So right now I'm listening to his performance of David Hewson's Romeo & Juliet: A Novel, from Audible.

Sean Bean has also narrated books and continues to do so, but not as many as Richard. (And some are sports related books he's narrated, those really not my genre at all, sorry Sean.)  In part I read less books from Sean because he talks about his reading list less on interviews, also because he's rarely asked. The media sees him as a "hard man" and so can't really stretch their minds to think this is a man that loves books.  Because of Sean I discovered the books of Bernard Cornwell and George RR Martin. I've recently added another author and set of books to read that Sean is reading now and says is his current favorite (Empire Magazine, January 2017 Issue, answering question from his friend Viggo Mortensen),  Berlin Noir by Philip Kerr.  Book, or first book in the series, it is a series I discovered, added to my Audible library.

I'm glad he's had a chance this past year to return to period drama in The Frankenstein Chronicles. Good to know too that Sean has had a role in producing some of his recent work. Hope he does more.

I'm looking forward to his new comedy "Wasted" - wonder if we'll see it in the US.  Sean has a great sense of humor, so I think this will be great. Many years ago he did a one man radio show during Christmas and it was hilarious. One of those music and radio theater the UK does so well. Very low key, dry wit in the British way. 

He's also recorded and performed several audiobooks in his career. Audible has a few of them, and I was happy to find my favorite of Sean's audiobooks (well, my favorite other than the Sharpe audio books, they are #1 of course) "King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table" among them.

Sean was born to be a knight.

Richard Armitage to perform Hamlet, a Novel

We are thrilled to announce that the Hamlet, a Novel, the follow-up to the critically acclaimed international bestseller Macbeth, a Novel, co-written by A.J. and David Hewson will be out on audio on May 20th, performed by the incomparable Richard Armitage.

Armitage has a history of playing Shakespeare but is probably best known internationally for his portrayal of Thorin Oakenshield in the recent Hobbit movies, as well as Guy of Gisborne in the BBC’s Robin Hood, Lucas North in Spooks and John Thornton in North and South.

As with Macbeth, a Novel, A.J. and David have set out to retell a version of Shakespeare’s story in the style of a period thriller, full of intrigue and excitement, giving Armitage a full cast of characters with which to demonstrate his considerable reach and power as an actor, as well as utilizing the rich musicality of his voice!.
