...our community of 'friends' ... (Richard Armitage, Message to his fans, December 24, 2011, Richard Armitage Online)
Ever since the media became aware after North and South that Richard Armitage has a growing fan base he is almost always asked about his fans during interviews. Below is a video compilation of what Armitage has been asked and what he has said about his fans in various television and radio interviews over the past several years.

Hi Fabo!
ReplyDeleteI loved the video of RA talking about his fans a how he appreciates our support! The video is fabulous!
Cheers! Grati ;->
Thank Grati! I'm so glad you liked it.
DeleteThanks for putting this all together -- I hadn't realized he'd been asked about this quite SO often. He's always very kind. What a generous man!
ReplyDeleteHi Servetus! Thanks for watching :)
Deleteyes, almost as much as the circus question!
Really enjoyed the video, Fabo. I've always been a person that cringes whenever he is asked about his fans .. the excerpts you put together make me feel a little better about it :)
ReplyDeleteHi mulubinba! I'm glad it did.
DeleteWonder what he will be asked about his fans after The Hobbit!
LOVED THIS Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBest bit was seeing Good Morning caption him as "hunky heartthrob" at 7:10
Hi! Yes, that was fun!!
DeleteWow, how cool! Thanks for compiling all that, Fabo!
ReplyDeleteHello jazzbaby! So glad you liked it :)
DeleteLOL thanks,Fabo:) How not to love him?;)
ReplyDeleteRichard speaks about us sympathetically but keeps healthy distance.
Hi Joanna,
DeleteExcellent point! Thank you for your great comment.
Simply adorable! I'm usually preoccupied by his characters that I forget how wonderful and super cute he is in interviews.
ReplyDeleteOne thing though- can we put the myth that Armitage fan's are mostly middle aged women to bed please! Sure, there are many, but there are also women in their 20s and 30s and male fans with great taste in men :)
Hi!
DeleteYou know, since I am a middle aged and occasional US Radio 4 listener I thought when I heard that how great that he knows who I am - LOL. I really think he meant it as a compliment, to say his fans were an intelligent and knowledgeable group. You make an excellent point about discarding the "middle aged" assumption. But yes, I think RA himself has discarded that long ago as he has said more recently, we are a diverse group and so much more fun that way.
Thank you!
Thanks, Fabo! It is always good to hear his voice and see his face when he talks about his fans. In print it may come across differently but in person he's almost always charming and humorous when asked about this topic.
ReplyDeleteHello Jane,
DeleteYou are right, it is different to hear his voice and his sense of humor than just reading what he said.
Thanks for your great comments.
What a charming person he is! Thanks, Fabo.
ReplyDeletefitzg
Thanks fitzg!
DeleteGreat compilation!
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine in December one of the late night hosts saying something like "tell us a little about your fans - we hear you have a huge following on the Internet" or 'did your army follow you to NZ to help with the battle scenes?'
Thanks, Fabo!
Hi Phoebe! Like you I can't wait until they start doing PR for The Hobbit! Though I also fear a bit what questions he will be asked!
DeleteSadly I have been a fan so long I started as an early 30's fan so thought the description of us was slightly unfair. Now I am that middle-aged Radio 4 listener :D
ReplyDeleteI think most of the time it is lazy journalism. I think he does very well answering the same questions over and over and over again, if it was me I would hit them.
Hi Rosiepig!
DeleteYou are lucky that you've been a fan of RA for a long time. Thank you for your great comments. Yes one thing I wanted to do with the video is show that he was responding to the questions asked of him and the tone of those questions sometimes.
I think his fans will become more diverse after The Hobbit - though we are quite diverse already :)
It must be complicated to have to deal with fans as part of one's chosen career, but I agree with the others that Richard Armitage handles it with charm and wit. :)
ReplyDeleteAgree! He certainly does and always a gentleman.
DeleteThanks for this Fabo. Really interesting to see these interview clips together and loved the way you explored Richard himself as a fan at the end. We're all really in this together :) Maggie, Twitter @magwi68
ReplyDeleteThanks magwi68 - I did want to show that exact thing, that we are all fans and all have our passions and interests, and Richard does too :)
DeleteGreat, great job putting this video together Fabo. Isn't it funny how they try to categorize us fans? Hah,, if only they really took the time to read all the blogs this week. They would so be impressed with the lot of us and want us. RA fans rock! lol
ReplyDeleteVery good point gracie - if only everyone in the media would take the time to really do some research before an interview they might ask him some great and thoughtful questions :)
DeleteWhat a super idea to put all those clips together. I really enjoyed your video!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I noticed is, he keeps saying that it wasn't his portrayal of Thornton that was so attractive, but it was because the character in the book was a favourite with people who studied it in school. Really? I had never heard of Elizabeth Gaskell until I saw Richard Armitage's portrayal of Thornton. But since then, I have come to regard her as one of my favourite authors! So Richard dear, I think you had that idea all backwards!
Such a humble soul, isn't he?
Hi Phylly!
DeleteYes,he really is! Adorable but so wrong - it's not the book Richard! And by now, if it was just Thornton I think we all wouldn't still be here don't you think?
Thank you - I'm so glad you liked the video. It was fun making it.
I'm glad you said that because now I can confess I hadn't heard of Gaskell either until N&S and even then I didn't run out to buy and read the book until a few years later!
