European Film Gateway Goes Online - and Patsy Cline's House Opens to Visitors - Film, Music and Museum News

The European Film Gateway

The European Film Gateway (EFG) went online on July 26. The website will give film lovers and film historians access to European film archives, photos, newsreels, posters, rare documents and much more. Researchers will have easy access to 16 archives that hold the original documents, photos, or film. The EFG website can be read in three languages: German, English, and Italian.

Patsy Cline

Patsy Cline's House:

Visitors to Winchester, Virginia, can now visit The Patsy Cline Historic House opening on August 2. The Country Music legend lived in the house from her teens to late 20's. Patsy Cline died in a plane crash in 1963 at the age of 30.

@Custard I know, how can he only be in CA for so short a time! I need to buy the DVD so I can see him in slow motion :) :)

Thanks for the acorntv heads-up! I wonder if they'll get the whole british television catalogue on there at some point. If so, I'd be willing to sign-up. Have you signed-up for the free trial?

And also, thanks about the news about Patsy Cline. I used to love her!! I can't believe she was only 30 when she died. I didn't realize that. How young!

@calexora I haven't signed up yet for the free trial with Acorn TV, thinking about it still. Same for me, if they have programs that haven't been shown in the US, or ones that likely won't be, I think I might be willing to sign up. If it's she same Acorn group, they used to have a catalog of UK shows and documentaries for many years.

Yes, so young Patsy Cline, she had a wonderful voice :)

RA should have had more screen time- but what was there was good-
Love Patsy Cline have tons of her music I vaguely remember the news talking about it on tv when it happened-- I was 4-

More Tie-Ins with the Hobbit Films - HarperCollins Publishes Tolkien Illustrations

North & South and Spooks (MI-5) Win Top Spots in BBC America's Top British Drama's of All Time

North & South wins the #2 spot in BBC America Anglophenia Readers Poll of the 10 Best British TV Series of All Time.

I hope BBC America and PBS (US Public TV) will look at the results of this poll and will broadcast this wonderful series in the U.S. It aired only once in only select PBS stations back in 2005, I know because I was one of the lucky ones that saw it then. I don't recall that it ever aired on BBC America.

Also great news that Spooks or MI-5 in the U.S., won the #7 spot in the reader's poll. Another series that has never been allowed the time to find it's American audience on PBS or BBC America.

The time is now PBS and BBC America for US audiences to see these two great British programs.

"The Hobbit" Question of the Month: Sexy Dwarves or Bearded Dwarves?

Unless you've been under a rock lately you know that Peter Jackson and "The Hobbit" group have been very busy making casting announcements about the film. Because of the casting of several very attractive actors (talented actors all) for the Middle-earth dwarves (Richard Armitage, Aidan Turner, and others) there's quite an interesting discussion developing between Tolkien purists and fans of the actors in question, or just movie fans in general about whether the look of the Middle-earth dwarves should remain true to the book, or maybe changed to provide some eye candy for us ladies.

I was just inspired by the article and RA Central (on Twitter) to post the unscientific poll below. So how about it world, do we want sexy dwarves in Middle-earth or hairy, long-bearded, dwarves?

Caravaggio starring Sean Bean was Voted one of 100 Top British Films
